Experienced JGSLA mentors will provide one-on-one assistance with the Family History Center's vast resources, including the popular online genealogical databases -- JewishGen, Footnote.com, Ancestry.com, and Heritage Quest. Use the Center's extensive collection of European and US microfilms, maps, gazetteers, census and vital records, naturalization and passport application indexes, city directories, and passenger arrival lists to further your research. Bring your family trees and documents to share with others, along with a flash drive if you plan to download electronic images from microfilms using the Center's scanning equipment.

Translators: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Sign-up for an appointment at the door

Translations of vital records, documents, microfilms, gravestone inscriptions, and family letters in the following languages: Polish, Lithuanian, Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian , German, Hungarian.

Please note:  Appointments will be for 20 minutes.  First come, first served.   No advance sign-ups or requests, please.

Class : 1:00 PM - 2:15 PM - Introduction to the Family History Center

Barbara Algaze, JGSLA Librarian, will explain the resources of the Center and how to use their census and naturalization microfilms and fiches, city directories and more. A great start for members new to the library, but experienced genealogists will discover surprising tips and creative hints to enhance their research.

Class: 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM - Introduction to Internet Genealogy

JGSLA board member, author and genealogy speaker, Arnie Schwartz will offer 39 easy ways to learn more about your relatives in this condensed version of his six-hour "Beginning Genealogy Workshop." Internet sleuthing techniques will be covered along with tips on how to obtain copies of early documents by mail.

A 176 page tutorial workbook, written for the visual learner, will be for sale at this meeting for $20. (Also available by mail for a $3 shipping). Email Arnie for details.

Open to JGSLA members only. Any friend you bring can join at the door!

Volunteers Needed!
If you would like to assist for an hour or two in the microfilm room, with computer research, or by staffing the check-in/copying stations, please contact Pamela Weisberger. This is a great way to meet your fellow members.

Lunch/Vending
Eat, be merry, and network with other researchers! Food and drinks can be brought to the Family History Center and eaten in the lunchroom area. There are also vending machines for snacks and a microwave oven.
